Bibimbob 0.10: a redesigned dependency graph viewer for ReScript

Hi everyone,

I’ve released Bibimbob 0.10.0, a new version of the VS Code extension for exploring ReScript module dependencies. This is a substantial update to the viewer I introduced here.

The goal is to make it easier to answer: what uses this module, what does it depend on, and where is its source?

What’s new

  • A rebuilt graph viewer with module cards, source-folder/package labels, and dependency highlighting. Layout runs locally with bundled Graphviz; rendering doesn’t need a CDN connection.
  • Find and navigate: search module names, move between matches, and use Back to return to earlier views.
  • Native context menus: right-click a module to open its source, focus its dependencies, or copy its name or relative path. Cmd/Ctrl+click also opens source.
  • Better handling of large projects: cancellable analysis, fewer repeated dependency scans, bounded caches/history, and more readable unused-module grids. I also tested the viewer with a generated graph containing 1,001 modules and 3,976 connections.

Project overview

The screenshots below use a small demo shop project:

Focus on one module

Click a module to see what uses it and what it uses, then open the source directly from the graph.

Try it

  1. Install or update Bibimbob from the VS Code Marketplace.
  2. Build your ReScript project so its compiled output is available in lib/bs.
  3. Run Bibimbob: Show Dependency Graph, Bibimbob: Focus On Module Dependencies, or Bibimbob: Show Unused Modules from the Command Palette.

One interaction change: plain scrolling now pans the graph; hold Ctrl/Cmd while scrolling to zoom. Dragging pans too, and Cmd/Ctrl+F opens module search.

The extension also shows inline value-usage counts on supported compiler versions. Modules without dependents are candidates to investigate, rather than a guarantee that they can be deleted.

The bundled binaries target macOS Apple Silicon (arm64) and Linux x86-64, with VS Code 1.96+ and ReScript 11, 12, or the supported ReScript 13 alphas. Windows is not supported yet. The underlying CLI is also released as rescriptdep 0.3.0. You can also install the VSIX directly from the release page below.

Thanks to everyone who tried the earlier versions and shared feedback. I’d especially appreciate reports from larger projects and monorepos; please include your ReScript version and a minimal reproduction if something doesn’t work.
